Does gold-tone mean solid gold?

No. Gold-tone is the visible finish, usually plating, unless the listing states solid gold.

How do I read a material passport?

Start with base metal, then plating or finish, then stones. Weight, dimensions, and notes such as nickel-free appear when they are in the catalogue.

Material guide

Know the finish you are choosing.

Fashion jewellery can look luxurious while being made from very different materials. These basics help you compare pieces clearly.

Base metal

The base metal gives a piece its structure. Common fashion-jewellery bases include brass, copper, alloy, and stainless steel. The base is different from the visible finish.

Plating and finish

Gold-tone, silver-tone, rose gold, oxidised, and antique finishes are surface treatments or colours. They are not a claim that the piece is made from solid precious metal.

Wear and sensitivity

Skin response varies from person to person. If you are sensitive to metals, look for nickel-free or hypoallergenic product information and stop wearing a piece if irritation occurs.
